Our Approach to English Language Support

EAL support is integrated into everyday classroom practice and complemented by targeted specialist support where needed.

Our EAL teachers:

  • Build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Help students participate in lessons and school life
  • Support academic language required for curriculum subjects

Targeted EAL Support

Our EAL support may include:

  • Small-group EAL sessions
  • Short-term withdrawal support focused on specific language skills
  • Individualised language targets
  • Support with academic vocabulary and subject-specific language

Identifying English Language Needs

Students who speak a language other than English at home may be assessed when they join TSI. This helps us understand their current level of English and determine the most appropriate support.
